The other day I spent 5 hours in Selfridges’ beauty department. Yes FIVE. All of this was in aid of finding the perfect red lipstick. If you are a girl who loves make up you’ll know how important this is. There are so many different shades of red; matte red, shiny red, orangey red, dark red etc.
So after I tried out lipstick from YSL, Lancôme, Dior, Chanel, Giorgio Armani and just about every other high end brand you can think of I thought I had found ‘the one’ and began my expensive day out by buying lipstick firstly from Dior, secondly from Clinique and lastly nearly buying from Armani. It’s safe to say that while these colours were beautiful they did nothing for me or my complexion and weren’t what I was looking for so after returning them one by one I realised that 5 hours and no results was probably not the way to go so I decided to continue my search another day.
It may have been silly of me to ignore MAC simply because I have so many of their products therefore I decided I wanted to ‘branch out’ but in hindsight I realised that the only reason I have so many of their lipsticks is because they are – in my opinion – the best. I love MAC; their foundation, concealer, eyeliner, blusher, lip liner and lipstick all stand proudly on my dressing table.
When the make up artist asked me what I wanted and I said ‘a red red’ she bought over countless shades but none of them were the kind I was looking for until Ruby Woo. At first I was a bit apprehensive but after a while the colour grew on me and I realised how perfect it was. I know some people shy away from matte colours because they can make their lips dry but I’ve found that if you apply a base the lipstick will glide on effectively (I use Cocoa Butter). My favourite thing about this colour is that it lasts all day so I just need to put on a tiny amount and 6 hours later it’s still there and as bright as it would be had it been freshly applied!
